In the absence of a more permanent solution for the City of Parksville and surrounding areas, Oceanside Community Church is opening its doors in cooperation with the RDN to provide an overnight warming shelter for the Oceanside area. Please see the public notice here: https://rdn.bc.ca/notice-2026-02-18

THE DETAILS

When: 8pm Wednesday, February 18th, 2026 to 6am Thursday, February 19th, 2026.

Where: Oceanside Community Church, 1420 Alberni Hwy (in our multipurpose room; use separate west entrance)

Transportation: RDN Transit will be providing shuttle service from Parksville City Hall to the warming centre from Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., with return trips Thursday morning at 6:30 a.m. Multiple round trips will be provided.

What is Provided? Some food, washroom facilities, some supplies, and most of all warmth.

How Can I Help? Although some funds are being provided, including coverage for staffing and security, hosting the warming centre involves several expenses for the church, including keeping our building warm and heated 24/7 over this cold stretch.

We are anticipating higher than usual hydro and heating expenses. If you’d like to help, we ask that you give to our general fund to cover these and other costs so that we can continue to operate and offer our space in order to provide this and other life-saving services to our community.

Who Can I Contact with Questions?
The shelter is being organized by the RDN and they are the first point of contact. The church is partner and host, but can be reached at operations@oceansidecc.ca or 250.248.5333. Please do not drop off any item donations until it is confirmed they are needed.
