With over 25 years of clinical counselling expertise and a Master of Arts in Counselling and Psychology from a theological seminary as well as a Biblical Studies undergrad, Judy North provides ​Christian-based, solutions-focused, short-term counselling here at Oceanside.

Is there a fee?

Perhaps your first question! Private counselling fees (usually $150+ per session) are being waived to provide this support through the church. If you’re wanting to support the church’s ministries in lieu of a payment, we request you donate to our Care or Missions funds.

What are the sessions like and how many will I receive?

Sessions take place in a private setting at the church and will be 45-60 minutes in length. There will be 1 to 3 sessions depending on the presenting issue and support needed.

Sessions include biblically based counselling that may include prayer, Scripture, further resources, and brief solutions-focused therapy that utilizes the individual’s strengths to address issues of concern. Work outside of the sessions, such as reading and self-care activities, will likely be expected.

Considering these are short-term sessions, referrals may can be made for ongoing support to local services, support groups, or other counsellors. Financial aid may be available from the church to support these referrals for those who need it.

A list of wellness and counselling resources may also be provided or can be requested.

What are the qualifications of the counsellor?

Judy is a Certified Professional Counselor with the Canadian Association of Christian Counselors and Psychotherapists and holds private liability insurance.

She has a working knowledge of numerous mental health and life situations, including trauma, conflict resolution, grief, self-harm and suicide care and prevention, and many other areas of support. She has qualifications to work with both children/youth and adults.

What about confidentiality? Will information be shared with the pastoral staff?

All information discussed is confidential and as such no information will be provided back to pastors or the referring pastor unless the client chooses to sign a release of information. For full confidentiality statement, see the initial information packet and intake form.

When are sessions available?

Currently appointments can be made for Tuesdays between 10am-2:30pm. Note: drop-ins are not an option and you must sign up ahead of time.
